Top 5 Reasons

To Join A Team

Play to have fun and make new friends. Being social and getting exercise improves overall quality of life and makes you a better person (Please disregard if you're already perfect).

Play to stay active and physically fit all the while enjoying it. Urban Rec leagues are not like running on a treadmill. You aren't a hamster but wouldn't it be fun to drink out of an upside-down watering system.

Play because your professional career didn't take off and you still have competitive streak that needs to be satisfied.

(Please note: skill levels are taken into consideration so all the hyperactive jocks / jockettes are in their own league.)

Play because science says it will make you happy. Exercise makes your body release endorphins. Endorphins reduce pain and trigger positive feelings!

Play because you love the game. Speaking of love, maybe you'll meet your next significant other?

(Disclaimer: Urban Rec takes no responsibility for any romantic connections made as a result of joining a team. We aren't love gurus)

I joined Urban Rec about 3 years ago, because I wanted to play with my friends, get a little sweat going on, and maybe in the process make a few new friends. Mike does an excellent job running Urban Rec. He emphasizes that the league is primarily a social league. I have participated in a bunch of sports and enjoyed several community service events and happy hours. You definitely get out of Urban Rec what you put into it. If all you want to do is show up, burn a few calories, and go home you can do that. However, if you want to play and get to know people, you can do that too!

Elementary School Teacher

Joining Urban Rec was one of the best life choices I’ve ever made. Not only has it reduced my Netflix intake, I’ve met a lot of great people who also love to stay active and more importantly, have a good time! If you’re looking for a league that offers a healthy dose of friendly competition or if you’re more the chill type and just want to play for kicks, Urban Rec has it all. See you on the court!

League Manager

I joined Urban Rec so I would stop myself from watching so much TV. I enjoyed my first season of Urban Rec multi-sport so much I knew I was hooked and wanted to play in some of the other leagues.  I enjoyed my time playing with Urban Rec so much that I decided to volunteer with them and became an Event Coordinator. I definitely enjoyed my time as an EC, the people you meet are amazing and always left the field with a smile on my face. About a year and half ago I got the opportunity to join the full time Urban Rec staff and haven’t looked back!

UBC Admissions Office

I’ve been a participant and an Event Coordinator with Urban Rec for over 8 years. I’ve met amazing new people and worked with a dynamic team of volunteers. As an Event Coordinator, it’s exciting to meet the new and returning participants each season. Being the main point of contact for my leagues, I provide a warm smile to greet the teams and get them excited to play each night. It’s great to watch teams, friendships, and even relationships grow.

I’ve played my favourite sports, learned new ones, attended lots of fun parties, and made life-long friends. Where else can you meet young, fit, like-minded people? Urban Rec is more than just sports – it’s a lifestyle defining what’s it’s like to live and play in Vancouver!

Two years ago, we started a home business together as a couple. After a lot of hard work, the business is doing great and we're finally able to take some time for ourselves. We joined Urban Rec to get back into shape and maybe meet some new friends. We were blown away by the amount of amazing people we've met and how quickly rec sports (particularly softball) has become part of our weekly lifestyle.

I love to be surrounded by a positive active group of people. Urban Rec opened up this opportunity for me and handed it to me on a silver platter - perfect for someone new to Vancouver. Anyone from beginner to more advanced players can sign up to play sports with Urban Rec. Big high five to the organization for making this available to everyone. Bonus, I even won tickets to a Whitecaps game through an Urban Rec social media contest. Gracias Urban Rec!
